This is Luis holding the mule deer and coues deer racks that will probably be the only time I ever kill a good desert mule deer and coues deer on the same day. Luis is our new Jefe and will be with us through all of next season. His father also owns the ranch that we took these two deer on. The next day Victor took Janet for a hike around a couple of knobs where they saw four coues deer bucks but no shots. As they eased around the backside of the rimrock there was a very nice mulie standing in the mesquite, Victor said no , not 30 inches and turned around and walked off. Janet couldn’t believe it as the buck was wider, heavier, had eyeguards and deeper forks than the one I killed the day before. But I had told Victor we were looking for 30 inchers now, so Janet obligingly walked off and left this probably 190 class buck for next year.
