Summary of this years hunt in Mexico: If you read about last years hunt you know that we got rid of some ranches and kept our two remote ranches, which traditionally have been our best ranches. We have a very good relationship with the owners and they, like us, are more interested in long term success and understand good management practices and not over hunting just to make a buck. We have had these ranches now for seven years, they have done everything they say they are going to do, they have improved the hacienda put in new roads, a new pond and fenced off areas for water for deer. We picked up a smaller ranch boardering the upper ranch, very good for coues deer and mule deer. The mangement practices and improvements have really paid off, the hunters filled all eleven of our mule deer tags with bucks ranging from 180 - 195. Several of which were over 30 inches. We also took seven coues deer. The best grossing 111. We saw at least three bucks that would have been over 200 but just couldn't get the shot. We have never seen so many nice bucks that were left for the upcoming year. We took Carl and Abe to a 2000 acre high fence where they each shot mid 160 Desert Sheep. These guys can both afford to hunt free ranging sheep but for basically half price they were very happy. They hunted from a highrack truck and it was more of a hunt than I thought it would be, it took the better part of a day and we didn't get back to the mule deer ranch until about 1:30 that morning. Janet and I stayed over for a few days and hunted coues deer. I took my two best coues deer and saw two awesome mulies that we didn't have a tag for. The best one being about 30 inches 4x4 with a 4" sticker and two split eyeguards and very tall. Check out our 2008 photos below. Click on picture for more details |
