Janet and I have taken 31 bear, this is the largest to date. The bear was 7’ from nose to tail, 7’3 from claw to claw, it weighed 376 pounds field dressed, that was a huge spring bear. The bear could have easily gone 600 pounds on the hoof in the fall. It was taken in the same glade that I took my spring bear last year. We have seen eleven bear this year, two browns the rest blacks. This year has been the worst weather conditions we have had since the game department opened the spring bear season in southwest Oregon. It has been cold and rainy and the snow is just not melting, we are six inches over our average rainfall for the year to date and we believe there are many bear still in the den. Where we were taking our four wheel drive trucks last year to get to the same area we are using an 8 wheel drive Argo with the track kit.
